PMP Exam Format
The PMP (Project Management Professional) exam format is designed to rigorously assess a candidate's knowledge and skills in project management. The examination consists of 180 questions, which need to be completed within 230 minutes. These questions are a mix of multiple-choice, multiple responses, matching, hotspot, and limited fill-in-the-blank types. Importantly, out of these questions, 5 are pre-test questions that do not affect the final score. The purpose of these questions is solely for research to improve future exams.
The exam is divided into three domains: People, Process, and Business Environment, which align with the latest PMBOK Guide and Agile Practice Guide. The People domain focuses on competencies in managing a team, which accounts for 42% of the exam. The Process domain, representing 50% of the exam, covers the technical aspects of managing a project. Lastly, the Business Environment domain, making up 8% of the exam, evaluates understanding of the link between projects and organizational strategy.
Candidates can take the exam either at a test center or online, offering flexibility in scheduling. The exam is computer-based, although paper-based testing is available under specific circumstances. To pass the PMP exam, a candidate must demonstrate proficiency across all domains, reflecting a deep understanding of both traditional and agile project management practices. The PMP certification is globally recognized and validates the holder's ability to lead and direct projects effectively.
